Intermittent 4.7 oil pressure/coolant issues. Hey guys, i drive a 2000 WJ 4.7 (non HO) with about 170k miles. lately i've had a strange issue that i'm unsure how to pin point. The oil pressure has read very high, in the 65-70 range, where it is typically in the 45-50. this seemed to be resolved when i checked my oil level and found it low GSUDave. 5 posts · Joined 2011. #19 · Mar 23, 2011. I have a 2001 4.7 w/ 140K and it was burning a quart every 2000 miles. I tried Castrol High Mileage 10W30 a couple of times and saw no change. The last 2 times I went with Castrol HM 10W40 and added half a can of Seafoam to my oil changes. My 4.7 wj runs fine, when the engine idles when it's temperature is cold the oil pressure is more or less at 3 but when it reaches operating temperature the gauge shows that when the engine idles the pressure is close to zero, but as soon as i press the pedal and let it idle at 700 rmp instead of 500 the oil pressure goes close to 3. The average HTHSV for a 5w30 is 2.9 to 3.0 and 10w30's generally average 3.1. A knat hairs difference but there is a difference. 99_wj_QD said: the "W" is for winter, it is an indicator for the viscosity rating of the oil in temperatures below freezing. 5W-30 and 10W-30 are both 30 weight oils, the 5W version offers a better flow rate in below sfYbUl. Especially when idling, the vacuum is at maximum, which causes the oil to pass by the valve seals. Then when opening the throttle, increasing the air flow, the oil is taken into the cylinders and burnt of. Frank. JEEP Grand Cherokee 4.7 Lmtd 2004:thumbsup: Quad Squad member.
